Description
Cattleya hummeliana (also called Hummel's Cattleya, among many other common names) is a species of orchid native to Brazil. It is found in wet montane forests, at elevations of 1000-2000 meters. It has a single, thin, erect stem, with a single, large, green-brown leaf at the base. The flower has a yellow-green color, and is shaped like a star.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Cattleya hummeliana has large, showy flowers with white petals and yellow sepals. The seed is small and black, and the seedlings are small and green.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cattleya hummeliana can be propagated by seed or division. Seeds should be sown in a well-draining soil mix and kept moist. Division should be done in the spring or fall when the plant is actively growing. Both methods should be kept in a warm, humid environment with indirect light.
