Dactylodenia cookei (also called African Star-of-Bethlehem, among many other common names) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to tropical Africa. It has a rosette of basal leaves and a single stem with a terminal inflorescence. It grows in moist, shady areas, such as in forests and along streams.

Cultivation and Propagation

Dactylodenia cookei is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows in moist, shady places. It is best propagated by division of the rhizomes. Plant divisions in spring or autumn in a moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade. It can also be propagated from seed, sown in spring or autumn in a cold frame. When large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer.
