Description
Lepanthes panicellus (also called Little Pan Lepanthes, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Orchidaceae family. It is native to Colombia and Ecuador, where it grows in wet montane forests at elevations of 1,000–2,000 m. It is an epiphyte, meaning it grows on other plants, usually in the forks of branches or on tree trunks.
Uses & Benefits
Lepanthes panicellus is used as an ornamental plant for its attractive foliage and flowers, and is also used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Lepanthes panicellus is small, white and has a yellow lip. The seed is small and round. The seedlings are small, green and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Lepanthes panicellus can be propagated by division or by seed. When propagating by division, the plant should be divided into several sections, each with at least one growing point. These sections should be planted in well-draining soil and kept moist until established. When propagating by seed, the seeds should be sown on the surface of a well-draining soil mix and kept moist until germination. Once the seedlings have established, they should be transplanted into individual pots.
