Description
Ornithocephalus cascajalensis (also called Cascajal Ornithocephalus, among many other common names) is a species of orchid native to Mexico. It has a stemless growth habit with long, thin, green leaves and fragrant, white flowers with yellow and purple markings. It grows in humid, tropical forests.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Ornithocephalus cascajalensis has small, white, five-petaled flowers with yellow centers. The seeds are small and black, and the seedlings have two opposite leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ornithocephalus cascajalensis is an epiphytic orchid that is easily grown from seed. It prefers partial shade and a well-drained, humus-rich soil. Propagation is by seed, which should be sown in spring or early summer. The seed should be sown in a shallow furrow and lightly covered with soil.
